The Department of Social Development has announced the following SASSA grant amounts for January to March 2024:
Older Persons Grant: R2,090
Older Persons Grant (over 75 years): R2,110
Disability Grant: R2,090
War Veterans Grant: R2,110
Child Support Grant: R510
Child Support Grant Top-up: R510 + R250
Care Dependency Grant: R2,090
Foster Child Grant: R1,130
Grant-in-Aid: R510
These amounts are unchanged from October, 2023 so far. There is typically a small increase in SASSA grant amounts in April each year.
So unless adjustments are announced, beneficiaries can expect to continue receiving these same amounts for the next 3 months.
R350 SRD Grant in 2024
The R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant is still active in 2024. However, the Department of Social Development’s proposal to increase the SRD grant value was reportedly declined.
So the SRD grant is expected to remain at R350 per month through 2025 when the grant expires.
Over 7 million South Africans currently rely on the temporary SRD grant for basic needs.
Collecting SASSA Grants in 2024
Sassa grant beneficiaries have a few options to access their monthly payments:
Bank Account Deposits: Grants can be directly deposited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. This allows secure access to funds at any time.
Cash Withdrawals: Benefits can be withdrawn at major retail stores like Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave, which distribute grants.
Sassa reminds beneficiaries not to rush to withdraw funds on the first day to avoid long queues. The money will remain available in their account or card.
