Do We Need to Reapply for the R370 SASSA Grant? If you are like most people, you must be thinking about it, well the good news is; The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) recently increased the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant from R350 to R370. This change has caused confusion among many beneficiaries, who are unsure whether they need to reapply or register again for the grant.
On 1 April 2023, the SRD grant officially increased from R350 to R370. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana had previously announced this increase during an address in March, stating:
“Subject to the finalisation of the comprehensive social security, we will increase the R350 [grant] to R370 by the first of April this year.”
The 5.7% increase, amounting to an additional R20, was implemented by SASSA, the agency responsible for distributing the SRD grant.
Do Existing Beneficiaries Need to Reapply?
The good news for current SRD grant recipients is that they do not need to reapply or register again after the increase to R370. Once an application for the SRD grant is approved, there is no need to reapply every month.
The only circumstance in which a beneficiary would need to reapply is if their initial SRD r370 grant application was rejected by SASSA. In this case, they would need to submit a new application.
SASSA automatically evaluates each beneficiary’s eligibility on a monthly basis. The agency collaborates with the Department of Home Affairs to verify identities and citizenship, and shares bank details with the Department of Treasury for income verification. Once SASSA is satisfied that a beneficiary still qualifies, the R370 grant payment is processed.
How to Check the Status of Your R370 SASSA Grant?
If you are unsure about the status of your R370 SASSA grant, you can follow these steps to check:
- Visit the SASSA SRD status website and find the SRD status check section.
- Enter your ID number and the mobile number you used when submitting your grant application.
- Check the progress of your grant by completing the SASSA status check.
- For added security, you may receive a SASSA status pin. Enter this pin to access your final results.
SASSA receives millions of applications for the SRD grant, so it is important to be patient and regularly check the status of your application. Once your application has been evaluated, SASSA encourages applicants to use the status check feature to determine if they will receive the R370 grant payment.
